I set up this site because, as a stylist and flat iron fanatic, people are often asking me for flat iron recommendations and I want to share my knowledge and point people in the right direction for which hair straightener to buy for their hair type, style and price range.
As I’ve worked my way through the brands, I’ve found that some companies use the word “professional” to sell products that aren’t really of a professional standard. When you buy hair straighteners for under $50, you can’t really expect a salon finish. My rule of thumb is that the models which are actually “professional” are generally priced at $80 and above (some well above!) until now.

There are well over 23 thousand Hsi 1 ceramic tourmaline ionic flat iron hair straightener reviews!!! And it maintains an average consumer rating of 4.5 stars with more than 70% of users giving it the full 5 stars. This really is staggering because most models I’ve looked at might have a few hundred reviews but this one has 23,000. That’s a whole lot of buyers. I also think that people are more likely to write a review if they’ve got something to complain about than if they love it and yet, after so many thousands of Hsi flat iron reviews, its rating hasn’t dropped. People LOVE this flat iron brand!

One problem that lots of models, even those from the top professional hair straighteners brands, have is that they can’t be used outside the U.S.A. Our voltage is 120V (60Hz) and lots of models are made only for that voltage and will short out as soon as you put them in a foreign socket. That’s no good for the jetsetter!

Promising Performance

Apart from floating plates (which do make straightening faster and reduce the chance of painful snagging) these flat irons have all the features of far more expensive professional models.
Versatile Style
Lots of people ask me which flat iron is best for curling, flipping or waving hair as well as straightening. I always recommend that they look for an iron with 1 inch plates and a rounded, narrow housing. This is because you’ll be able to catch the hair in the hair straightening tongs and flip it around for a curl without making an “iron line” or “halo” like you get if the casing is too thick. The HSI has 1 inch plates and a nice, narrow housing so it meets my curling criteria perfectly.
My Verdict: The Best Cheap Flat Iron
You might have noticed that I’m actually really excited about this iron!
I’m a total flat iron snob and I’ve spent A LOT of money on them in my life. Usually only the professional hair straightener best brands get a full 5 star rating from me so it feels a bit strange to give my highest recommendation to a $50 straightener. But I just can’t find fault with this model: even when I compare hair straighteners with much more expensive brands. So, I just have to give it the full 5 stars – it’s the best and cheap hair straightener.
Actually, the only thing “cheap” about it appears to be the price tag!
